Second Hand Book Fair 2023

The Association’s annual Second Hand Book Fair took place on the weekend of 9 – 10 September and was a great success.

There were over 30 people waiting outside the Hall before the doors opened at 10.00 am! There was a steady stream of buyers over the two days and everyone enjoyed browsing the books, making their selections and engaging in conversation with friends. The event once again demonstrated the wonderful sense of camaraderie in our community.

We would like to thank the many people who donated their books to the Fair. We were informed by several people that our Book Fair has become highly regarded in Hobart for the quality of books on offer.

We would like to acknowledge the hard work of organisers Gay Duffield, Len Spaans and Pam Powell who spent many hours receiving and organising the books, and to Jenny Cranston, Jenny Morgan and Nicky McKibben who provided valuable assistance over the weekend. Thanks are also due to Neil and Jenny Cranston, Trevor Graham, Rundi Larsen and David Rowe who helped set things up and take them down.

The Fair raised $3000.00, which will support maintenance and renovations at the Hall. We are currently in the process of upgrading plumbing and bathrooms, and refreshing the painting of some of the external and internal walls. The roof is likely to need attention in the near future, which will be a significant expense.

Please enjoy your books and start thinking about possible donations for the next Fair!
