Christmas Party 2024

On 8 December 2024, the Battery Point Community Association held its annual Christmas Party. It was a delightful celebration that included delicious food and drink, lively conversation and joie de vivre. Feedback on the event has been extremely positive.

About 135 people attended the event. Fortunately, the anticipated wind gusts occurred infrequently enough for everyone to congregate in Henslowe Park. The garden looked superb, thanks to the ongoing care and attention given to it by Melanie and David Rowe, Carol and their helpers.

This year, several new residents, including young families and business owners, enjoyed the occasion. We always appreciate the company of children who add such enthusiasm and energy to our events.

We are deeply grateful to the Social Committee –Marilyn Jones, Carol Mackel, Jenny Cranston, Eve Morris and Marylouise Brammer – who organised the event. During the afternoon, gourmet chefs Neil, Peter and Trevor barbecued sausages and everybody brought food to share. As always, the pavlovas provided by Priestley’s Gourmet Delights were a hit, as was the scrumptious punch. Young residents, Ellie and James Reid, deserve praise for their assistance in serving guests. Thanks also to Neil Cranston, Peter Jones, Rundi Larsen, Trevor Graham, David Rowe and Jenny Morgan for their valuable assistance throughout the day.

We are grateful to Rowena Brazzill and Angelo Fraraccio and for donating generous lucky door prizes. Da Angelo also provided pizzas to supplement the feast.

President Charles Morgan warmly welcomed the guests, including Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds and Councillor Louise Bloomfield, and acknowledged the generous Hobart City grant that supported the Christmas Party. Following this address, young Battery Point comedian James McSwan and his sidekick James Oxbrough brought the house down with some well-delivered jokes. They will no doubt be back by popular demand! Finally, St George’s rector Victor Shaw paid tribute to the Association’s contribution to the community and provided information about the church’s Christmas program.

The Christmas Party is always a highlight of the Battery Point calendar. Its popularity indicates again the value that we place on social interaction with our neighbours and friends. We are fortunate  indeed to have a delightful environment in which to make it happen.
