Book Fair 2026 – better than ever

The Fair took place on 22 and 23 August, and was a big success. The Community Hall doors opened at 10.00 am on Saturday with a large crowd eagerly waiting outside. As always, there was an excellent selection of books on offer, all generously donated and all new to the Fair this year. During the next two days, there was a steady stream of browsers who made purchases from the wide range on offer.

The Fair raised just over $5500 (a new record), which will support the roof replacement project.

We would like to acknowledge the hard work of organisers Pam Powell, Gay Duffield and Len Spaans who received, organised and sold the books with the assistance of Jenny Cranston, Jenny Morgan, Charles Morgan, Eve Morris and Gina Hadolt. Neil Cranston organised the delivery of the leftover books to Red Cross in Huonville – a monumental task. David Rowe, Glen Hadolt, Tiina Sexton and Andrew Edwards helped in other ways. David’s wasabi plants proved once again to be a popular addition to the books on offer!

The Second-hand Book Fair is much more than a fundraising event. It also strengthens social networks among the people of Battery Point and the wider community – young, old and in between – who come together to discover great new books to read and share. It is especially gratifying to see the smiling faces of children when they discover something special.
