Book Fair 2025
The popularity of the Association’s annual Second-hand Book Fair was evident during the weekend of 23 and 24 August. The Community Hall doors opened at 10.00 am on Saturday with a large crowd eagerly waiting outside. During the next two days, there was a steady stream of browsers who made purchases from the excellent selection on offer.
The Fair raised just over $5000.00, which will support the maintenance of the Hall and contribute to the roof replacement project.
We would like to acknowledge the hard work of organisers Gay Duffield, Len Spaans and Pam Powell who spent many hours receiving and organising the books, and to Jenny Cranston, Neil Cranston, Jenny Morgan, Charles Morgan, Eve Morris, Katrina Schlunke, David Rowe, Jo Shugg, Tiina Sexton and Trevor Graham who provided valuable assistance prior to and during the event. David Rowe’s wasabi plants proved to be a popular addition to the books on offer!
The people of Battery Point once again demonstrated their generosity and community spirit in providing the books to make the 2025 Book Fair a resounding success.
Leftover books were donated to Red Cross, who expressed their appreciation of the community’s contribution.
It is important to remember that events such as the second hand book fair are more than just fundraising efforts on behalf of the Association, important as that is in itself. They also strengthen social networks, both among the people of Battery Point who cooperate and work so hard to make the event a success and the wider community of Hobart who come together to find new joy in searching out books and in reading.
