Book Fair 2024
The people of Battery Point once again showed their deep generosity and community spirit in providing the books to make the 2024 Secondhand Book Fair a resounding success.
The people of Battery Point once again showed their deep generosity and community spirit in providing the books to make the 2024 Secondhand Book Fair a resounding success.
The Association’s annual Second-hand Book Fair took place on the weekend of 24-25 August and was a resounding success.
There was a crowd of people waiting in the rain outside the Hall before the doors opened at 10.00 am! During the two days of the Fair, a steady stream of buyers enjoyed browsing the books, making their selections and engaging in discussions with family and friends about what to purchase.
We would like to acknowledge the many community members who donated their books to the Fair, which has become well-known for the quality of books on offer.
The Fair raised just over $5000.00, which will support maintenance and renovations at the Hall. We have recently upgraded plumbing and bathrooms, and undertaken painting of some of the external and internal walls. The roof is likely to need replacement in the next few years, which will be a significant expense.
We would like to acknowledge the hard work of organisers Gay Duffield, Len Spaans and Pam Powell who spent many hours receiving and organising the books, and to Jenny Cranston, Neil Cranston, Jenny Morgan, Charles Morgan, Eve Morris, Katrina Schlunke and Marilyn Jones who provided valuable assistance prior to and during the event. Trevor Graham’s lemons proved to be a popular addition to the books on offer!
Leftover books were donated to Red Cross, who expressed their appreciation of the community’s generosity.
Please enjoy your books and start thinking about possible donations for the next Fair. If you would like to volunteer your assistance in 2025, please let us know.
